Parental Depression and Anxiety

January 21, 2021 by BHS

The pandemic for most parents has been very stressful. Mental health problems have rose dramatically during COVID. The pressure of finances, limited child care options and health concerns have made it a very challenging time to families. Parental anxiety and depression have increased because of the pressure on parents during this time. Parents need to figure out ways to support their mental health.

Our Mental Health system in this country could use improvement as well. As parents are realizing they need to prioritize their mental health; mental health services are in high demand. The negative effects on our mental health are still growing because of this pandemic. Sometimes traditional therapy is not accessible for everyone but small steps in improving parents’ poor mental health is key.

Seeking professional help is the one of the best ways to support your mental health. If you are feeling hopelessness or finding it difficult to manage, reaching out to a mental health provider could help to work through mental health challenges. Investing in positive family mental health can help support positive mental health in our children. If parents prioritize self-care and model healthy ways of coping with stress, anxiety, and depression like talking to a therapist, children can react to that in a healthy way as well.
